East Coast National Results (March 15 & 16, 2003)
What a better way to start the season after a long winter then
with an NBL National on a beautiful weekend at the Jersey shore!
When the East Coast National rolled into Egg Harbor this past
weekend, it was hard to believe that just three weeks prior the track
was shoveling snow to prepare for the Jack Frost Classic. This weekend
was different as the snow was no snow in sight and temps rose into
the upper 60s. What an outstanding weekend for a BIG race. Cory started
the weekend in GREAT shape as he posted a 2nd,
2nd and 1st place in motos 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
The main on Saturday proved a bit tougher as the best that Cory could
muster was a 5th place finish.
Now as far as Sunday goes, Cory figures we should have slept in and
read the Sunday comics! The day started for him with a 6th
place (last) in the first moto. Feeling doomed to make
the main, he pressed harder in moto #2 and finished 5th.
He finally looked like the Cory of old in the 3rd moto as he made
some diving moves to be up swapping positions as high as 2nd, before
loosing a couple of positions and finishing 4th
in the 3rd round. Well, he was getting faster as the day went on,
too bad there weren't 6 motos! At this point Cory was stoked for the
main. He lined up in gate #5 and when the gate dropped flew out and
looked to be in 2nd position.......until the first jump. That is where
the rear tire blew and Cory's chances for a decent national finish
ended. In Cory's words, "I went up, and when I came down I heard
a hissing sound". Well, that hissing sound was the end of a rough
Sunday, but also the end of a pretty darn good weekend and a pretty
good start to the 2003 season. Sunday's main ended with a 5th
place finish, just like Saturday,
but at least he asked that magical question; "when do I get another
chance at a national, Dad?" Don't worry Cory, there's an entire
season to go! Somehow, the nice weather, chance to BMX finally, some
tailgating BBQ and being back in the company of friends made even
a rough weekend seem not too bad! Great job Cory on your first
national of 2003!
Cory brings home 2nd in first race of '03 (March 8, 2003)
The first race for Cory of the 2003 season is in the history books
as Cory raced in the East Coast National Pre-Race on Saturday March
8th at Egg Harbor BMX finishing 2nd. Not bad also considering that
he was combined with the 7 Expert class for the day! Tyler Ringwood
proved to be the only Expert too tough for Cory to catch this time
around. One thing's for sure, getting on the bike again after a long
winter made Cory a very happy kid......he was super stoked to get
back to racing and is no doubt ready for the '03 season!!!
See Ya On The Track - REAL soon!
