Pittsville MD Mid-Atlantic results!
(June 21& 22, 2003)
For the 14th weekend this year, rain was forecasted for the Northeast
region and threatened to washout the Mid-Atlantic National in Pittsville,
MD. On Friday June 20th (Happy Birthday Dad) it was pouring in the NJ
area and we cancelled our trip to Maryland in the AM. However, by afternoon,
the weather forecast looked brighter in MD, so we rescheduled and headed
south! Good thing we did too. The weather turned out to be sunny
and beautiful.....at least in Pittsville MD. We hear back in NJ
it rained all weekend again! The moto turnout was low with only 80-something
motos on Saturday and 70-something on Sunday......everyone scared away,
we guess, because of the threat of stormy rain. Cory's weekend
was a middle-of-the-road weekend with all 3rds
in the motos on Saturday and a 4th
in the Main after a total of 9 racers in his class started
the day. On Sunday Cory improved some by finishing with all
2nds in the motos and a 5th in the
Main. After planning on not even leaving the house for the
weekend due to the weather, it turned out to be a great weekend with
some great racing.

The Perfect Storm (well, almost) in Trumbull CT! (June 14 &
15, 2003)
In October of 1991 a storm stronger than any in recorded history hit
the coast off of Gloucester, Massachusetts. This "Perfect Storm"
created an almost catastrophic situation in the Atlantic ocean. On Saturday
June 14th, 2003, a storm of the BMXin' kind rolled into Trumbull CT
in New England causing some serious damage of it's own kind. Some boyz
from NJ including Big "C" rolled into Trumbull CT ready to
create havoc and that they did, but first, we had to get through Friday
the 13th. Yes, the black cat crossed our path first. Traffic made the
2-1/2 hour ride to Trumbull CT from NJ a 4-1/2 hour slow cruise, rain
in the Northeast (again) cancelled practice in Trumbull all day Friday,
(the track was recently rebuilt and was brand new to everyone so practice
was crucial) and a flat tire on Big C's trailer made us wonder if this
trip was worth it. That all changed on Saturday June 14th (Mom's Birthday
too - 29 again!!!) when Cory scored his first National PERFECT by winning
all three motos and the main. What a great present for Mom. Could he
repeat on Sunday to prove it was no fluke? Almost!!! After getting off
to a slow start in moto #1 and finishing 3rd, he again won motos 2 and
3 and was ready for the Main. A slow start in Sunday's Main found our
rocket in third place after turn #2 but he quickly started to reel in
the leaders. Going into the last turn he found himself running three-wide
with Tyler McBride (NJ) and Connor Houlihan (CT) going for the lead.
With Tyler on the outside, Connor in the middle and Cory on the inside,
all we could do was hold our breath and let the battle unfold. As they
all went into the last turn, Connor's attention seemed to be drawn to
the outside and to Tyler who was starting to pull ahead when Connor
made a dive for the inside of the turn and in the process collected
Cory and they both took a nose dive into some hay. Tyler was then able
to capitalize going wide in the turn, avoiding the wreck and pulling
off the Main win. We hear that going for the lead and crashing is the
NEXT best feeling there is in racing. Congratulations to our fellow
NJ rider Tyler McBride for scoring not only the win in Sunday's Main,
but for creating the other "PERFECT STORM" by winning his
three motos on Sunday. Looks like the "PERFECT STORM" that
rolled into New England this weekend developed in NJ!!
Way to go guys!

Rain almost washes out another weekend!
(June 7 & 8, 2003)
Remember the story of Noah's Ark?
Many of us here in the Northeast are beginning to feel like we're living
the real-life version. Rain again spoiled the NJ State Qualifier on
Saturday June 7th but cloudy skies allowed us to get in Sunday's race!
Due to Saturday's rain all the points from Sunday were doubled and used
as Saturday's finishes also since there would not be a rain date for
Saturday's qualifier. The track was in pretty decent condition even
after 2" of rain soaked the track less than 24 hours before thanks
to Vinny Mannino and the crew at CJBMX! Cory turned on the turbo jets
after a third place in the first moto to win both the second and third
round, taking the overall win for both days. See ya on the track!
Saturday & Sunday June 7th &
